  • What is the advantage of remote control in mining?

Remote control ensures that the operator is always in the best and safest position. This allows the Brokk machine to be operated in areas prone to rock falls or other hazards while the operator remains in a safe location.

  • Can Brokk machines do drilling?

Yes, Brokk machines can be attached with drill rigs and replace other machines or any handheld drilling that is being carried out in the mines

  • Can Brokk machines be used in narrow mines?

Yes, in fact the Brokk machines are able to work in areas where conventional machines cannot fit and replace many jobs that today has to be done manually.

  • Are Brokk machines designed for underground use?

Yes, several Brokk machines are used in underground mines across the world. They are built to last in the most extreme environments with dust, heat and water.

  • What is the difference from just using a conventional mini excavator in the kiln?

As the Brokk is remote controlled, the job can be started earlier with Brokk as the operator can be outside when the coating is being demolished at the outlet. Furthermore does the three-part arm system allow for much faster repositioning of the arm and no damage to the shell. The hitting power is much greater on a Brokk machine and the coating or bricks will simply be demolished much faster. The Brokk machines are built to work in hot and dusty environment and will not stop when you need it the most.

  • How long time will it take to debrick a rotary kiln?

A good operator is able to debrick a kiln with up to 10 m/hour.

  • Can the Brokk machines be used for more applications in a cement plant than just the rotary kilns?

Yes, the Brokk machines can be used in the coolers, crushers and even in the cyclones to break coating and refractory

  • How can the Brokk machine be brought into the kiln?

The Brokk machines are very compact when folded together this makes it possible to enter even the most narrow openings in the hood and pass any duct. Thanks to the low weight on the Brokk machines, they can enter the kiln over a bridge from the burner platform to the kiln outlet

  • Will the shell be damaged by the Brokk machines?

No, thanks to the three-part arm system the Brokk machines are able to follow the shell unlike conventional excavators. This allows for an efficient and safe way to debrick the kiln without damage to the shell.

  • Is it safe to use power cable in the process industry?

Yes, with an earth fault relay on the site, it is perfectly safe to use electric powered machines in the factory.

  • Why not use a conventional excavator for removal of slag and refractory?

The Brokk machines offers much more hitting power than conventional excavators and the boom design allows for faster debricking and longer reach. The Brokk machines are remote controlled which puts the operator in the best position to see the tool and prevent any damage to the furnace or ladle for instance.

  • Is it possible to demolish only one lining of refractory and keep the safety lining?

Yes, thanks to the three-part arm system and the adjustable blow frequency the Brokk machines can demolish refractory in a very controlled way.

  • Can one machine be used for several applications?

Yes, the Brokk machines are very flexible as they can be easily transported within the plant. A Brokk machine will always be busy with something unlike dedicated systems.

  • Can the Brokk machines work in hot environments?

Yes, the Brokk machines can be equipped with several options to work in high ambient temperature and even red hot areas for the arm system. Please check out the options page for more information

  • Can Brokk machines be used for several applications?

Yes, the Brokk machines are multipurpose machines and can be equipped with breakers, scabblers, buckets, drill rigs and many other tools. This means you can replace several machines with only one Brokk and save on the set-up time.

  • Brokk machines look small compared to conventional excavators for tunneling?

Brokk machines are available in many sizes but what they all have in common is that they are much more productive than conventional machines and can carry heavy tools. The smaller size makes sure the tunnels are not blocked for other traffic or construction vehicles.

  • Does the Brokk machines have option to reduce dust?

Yes, all Brokk breakers (except BHB 55) have an option to spray water to bind silica dust.

  • Which Brokk model is recommended for my kiln size?

Please check with your Brokk representative for more information on how to select your suitable Brokk model.

  • Is Brokk machines suitable for underground use?

Yes, Brokk machines are built to last in the most extreme environments from hot and dusty furnaces to mining and tunneling applications.

  • Why not just use conventional excavators for demolition?

Brokk machines are designed for demolition with heavy hydraulic attachments. The productivity is much higher and according to customers up to 5 times more powerful than same size excavators. The remote control puts the operator in a position to do controlled demolition and cut rebars for instance. Brokk machines are electric driven and which open up possibilities to work inside buildings with no fumes. If equipped with concrete crushers you can do silent demolition 24/7 without disturbance to the surrounding and speed up the project. The low weight makes it possible to work on upper floors with less, or no need for propping.

  • Why not just use concrete cutting equipment to remove concrete inside the buildings?

Brokk machines are a complement to cutting and coring which can be costly and time consuming because of the consumables and set up time. Often these jobs can be replaced by Brokk machines and the there will be no heavy slabs to discharge from the jobsite and no water required inside the building.

  • What is the floor load for the Brokk machines?

Please check with your Brokk representative for details.

  • Is it possible to climb stairs with Brokk machines?

Yes, all Brokk machines can climb stairs.

  • What size of generator is required?

We would recommend you to check with the supplier of generators but normally a ballpark indication would be 2,5 to 3 times the power (kW) of the Brokk machine.

  • Does all Brokk machines require 63 A fuse?

No, the smallest Brokk 60 and Brokk 110 can be operated on only 16 A (with reduced power for Brokk 110) and even the powerful Brokk 170 can be operated on only 32 A

  • Can Brokk machines break rock?

Yes, Brokk machines are available with many tools to break rock. Scabblers for soft rock, drilling and splitting for very hard rock. Please look at the attachment pages.

  • Why do you use electric motors?

Electric motors provide high power in a compact form, making them ideal for confined spaces where fumes are restricted. They also require minimal maintenance compared to traditional engines.

  • Can the Brokk machine be operated if the battery in the remote control is flat?

Yes, you can plug in the control cable to operate the machine while the battery charges, ensuring continuous operation.

  • How long does it take to change tools?

Tool changes on a Brokk machine are quick and straightforward, typically taking only a few minutes by one operator.

  • What is the reach of the remote control?

Brokk machines use a radio link system with a reach of up to 300 meters. This proven technology is reliable and widely used in heavy industries for its range and dependability.

  • Do I need training to operate?

While local regulations vary, Brokk strongly recommends attending Brokk Academy training. This training enhances operator efficiency, reduces spare parts consumption, and increases machine uptime.

  • Is daily maintenance time-consuming?

No, daily maintenance is designed to be quick and easy without the need to lift covers. This design simplifies upkeep and extends the machine’s lifespan.

  • How can the Brokk machine be lifted?

Brokk machines feature dedicated lifting points on the outriggers. Optional lifting eyes are also available to assist with lifting.

  • How long can the power cable be?

Typically, power cables up to 100 meters are acceptable. For specific requirements, please consult with your Brokk representative.
